TVA Info

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies serving 9 million people across parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenue from sales of electricity.

Beyond generating power, TVA provides flood control, navigation, and land management for the Tennessee River system and supports economic development across the region it serves. Founded in 1933, TVA was created to bring electricity, jobs, and modern infrastructure to the Tennessee Valley.

A Region Built on Public Power

The Tennessee Valley region spans 80,000 square miles across parts of seven states. TVA does not sell power directly to most homes and small businesses; instead, it delivers wholesale power to local power companies like Bolivar Energy Authority, who in turn distribute that energy to the customers and communities they serve.
